Since my admission to the Florida Bar in March 1986,I have been involved in all aspects of civil, criminal, appellate and administrative law litigation. I am licensed to practice in the United States Federal District Court, Northern District of Florida. I have litigated dozens of criminal and civil matters through jury trial, in addition to many bench trials in both state and federal court. I have represented over 100 condominium and homeowners associations, and for 12 years was a member of the board of directors of, and was general counsel to, a local community bank. In my general trial practice, I have done a moderate amount of transactional work, in addition to a broad range of litigation involving personal injury, real estate, construction, discrimination, admiralty, maritime foreclosures, commercial issues, collections and condominium litigation. For over ten years, I represented the interests of Allstate Insurance Company and its insureds and have represented the CIGNA Companies, Dixie Insurance Company and the State of Florida Division of Risk Management in its automobile and general liability litigation. I have also represented the interests of BP Oil Company in its underground tank litigation in Florida.

Before entering law school, I supervised the construction of a 65' sailing 'junk' in Thailand, and I worked as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain, piloting offshore oil field supply vessels in the Gulf of Mexico, and in the Java and South China Seas. Prior to that time, I worked at a large water sports business in the United States Virgin Islands, instructing SCUBA diving classes and operating thirteen ocean-going vessels. After becoming a member of The Florida Bar, for three years I also owned and operated a marine towing and salvage company in the Florida Panhandle. I graduated from the Florida State University undergraduate program in 1979, with a B.A. in Spanish Literature. I graduated from the Florida State University College of Law with a J.D. degree in 1985. I was certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a circuit civil mediator in 1998 and have mediated cases regularly since then. I speak both Spanish and Thai, although no longer fluently. I was born in Chandler, Arizona, on December 10,1952 and lived in numerous countries around the world as the dependent of a U.S. Air Force pilot.

With over 25 years of experience, I know how to speak my clients' language.
I can handle legal issues in multiple practice areas, including:

  • Admiralty and maritime law
  • Mediation and arbitration
  • Wills & trusts
  • Probate
  • Business and commercial litigation
  • Condominium and homeowners association issues

I have helped clients through many different types of legal proceedings, both simple and complex. One day, I may be litigating a dispute concerning the enforcement of a mechanic's lien. Another day, I may be working on a maritime issue involving The Jones Act. I am dedicated to providing knowledgeable and comprehensive legal services to each and every client, no matter what legal issue they
may be facing.

I have an extensive background in the maritime industry. I supervised the construction of a 65-foot sailing junk in Thailand and previously worked as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain for offshore oil field supply vessels in the Gulf of Mexico and South China Sea for a number of years. For over 25 years I held either a 50 or 100-ton master's license and for years ran offshore oil field boats, providing me with an in-depth understanding of maritime laws and rules. I also owned and operated a marine towing and salvage business.
I have an extraordinary amount of experience — and more importantly, interest — in maritime activities. I've also been an advanced open-water dive instructor for over 30 years.
